Union des Théâtres de l'Europe gathered, in the last 3 decades, some of the most important European theatres and artists. Through festivals, exhibitions, exchanges, masterclasses, cooperation projects, the UTE help create a continuous flow between West and East, between generations, between tradition and innovation. Our celebration is inspired by this rich history. With the help of the **Interferences International Theatre Festival**, we wish to remember some of the best performances presented at past editions of the UTE festival and look forward to new horizons.

UTE 30 Years

There is a place where happiness is possible for all of us
Anna Karenina has strong principles and is determined to live life to the fullest. On a trip to Moscow, she falls in love with Vronsky. Defying social conventions, she leaves her man and is forced to abandon her son in order to live her love.
In this stage adaptation of Tolstoy's brutal novel, Carme Portaceli rescues Anna Karenina from the love scandal and puts her on stage to be judged, but this time she is determined to tell us what really happened, what she really felt and what no one, except perhaps Tolstoy, considered.
After a run at the TNC’s Sala Gran, the show will go on an international tour to bring Anna Karènina in Catalan to the stages of Brussels, Zagreb, Paris and Amsterdam.

Anna Karenina

The TNC is a public cultural institution created to contribute to the cultural
growth of Catalonia through the performing arts as a tool for improving a
society in constant evolution, through the excellence of artistic and
educational initiatives open to everyone.
The activities of the Teatre Nacional de Catalunya began on November
1997 when the building entrusted to architect Ricard Bofill opened its 3
venues with a seating capacity of 850, 266 and 288 respectively. Josep
Maria Flotats was then the Artistic Director (1997/1998) He was then
followed by Domènech Reixach (1998-2006), Sergi Belbel (2006-2013)
and Xavier Albertí (2013-2021). On 2021 Carme Portaceli was
appointed as the new and current Artistic Director of the TNC.
The TNC offers around 40 productions every season. Contemporary
creation is our way to look straight into what’s going on in the world, to
constantly question ourselves to face reality. It also offers universal and
local repertory, but it’s the point of view what makes the difference.
Although the predominant language in our productions is Catalan, the
TNC also host productions in many other languages that are co-
productions or guest productions.
Parity has no discussion in the artistic project, and we are very proud to
have more female than male writers, directors, choreographers, etc.
Another axis of the project is diversity, trying to offer as many diverse
productions as diverse is our society in terms of race, ages, and
typologies.
