Something’s up, but so what? Nothing serious, of course, think the children of the sun. A group of memorably and tragicomically superficial middle-class individuals have no worries about the outbreak of cholera in their vicinity, nor the distant – or is it nearby? – rumbling of cannons. Theirs is a typical response of society that fails to grasp the danger because it has failed to change. Engaging in pathetic love affairs, they are oblivious to reality around them. They are captives of a world they do not grasp, captives of their “silly” problems, captives of their tragicomic fate.
